How Wordle works

You have six guesses to find a five-letter word. After each guess the tiles turn green for a right letter in the right place, yellow for a right letter in the wrong place and grey for a letter that is not in the word. One puzzle is published a day, and it changes at midnight in your local time zone; today's was edited by Tracy Bennett at The New York Times.

A good opener uses common letters and at least two vowels: SLATE, CRANE, AUDIO and ADIEU are popular for a reason. Treat your second guess as a second probe rather than an attempt to win, and remember that letters can repeat.

That is the puzzle for Tuesday. If it broke your streak, console yourself that it broke a lot of streaks; if it did not, see you tomorrow for #1,964.
