Ella Langley's 'Choosin' Texas' Ties Record for Longest Hot 100 Run by a Woman

Ella Langley's "Choosin' Texas" spent its 19th week atop the Billboard Hot 100 this week, pulling the country singer into a three-way tie for the longest run at No. 1 by any non-holiday song in the chart's history, according to Billboard's chart report. The song now shares the mark with Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road" and Shaboozey's "A Bar Song (Tipsy)," and stands as the longest-running No. 1 by a woman in Hot 100 history.

Only Mariah Carey's holiday perennial "All I Want for Christmas Is You," with 22 weeks at No. 1, has spent longer at the top of the chart. Langley's run has also been unusually non-consecutive, with the song dropping out of the top spot and returning multiple times since it first reached No. 1 in February, a pattern chart watchers attribute to its steady blend of streaming, radio and sales activity rather than a single viral spike.

A Breakout Built Over a Year

"Choosin' Texas" was released in October 2025 as the lead single from Langley's sophomore album, written by Langley alongside Luke Dick, Miranda Lambert and Joybeth Taylor, with Langley, Ben West and Lambert producing. It debuted modestly at No. 39 before climbing steadily to the top of the chart. Along the way it also became her first song to top Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay simultaneously with the Hot 100 — a feat Billboard noted no woman had previously achieved.

The single has since been certified six-times platinum in the United States, with multi-platinum certifications in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. Its success has come alongside a broader breakout year for Langley, who won seven trophies at this year's ACM Awards and scored a separate viral hit with a Koe Wetzel collaboration, "Jaded." Her first entry on the Hot 100, "You Look Like You Love Me," came via a duet with Riley Green.

For an industry still parsing what drives sustained chart dominance in the streaming era, Langley's run offers a case study in slow-building, catalog-style staying power rather than a single opening-week surge — the kind of trajectory Nashville executives have increasingly pointed to as evidence that country music's crossover audience keeps expanding. A full breakdown of the song's chart records was published by Variety.
