Triathletes converge on Vernal

Thomas Hill of Arvada, Colo., competes in the DinoTri on Saturday in Vernal. Hill finished fourth overall in the event's sprint distance with a time of 1:18:07.

More than 120 competitors turned out Saturday in Vernal to test themselves against the tough course offered up by the annual DinoTri.

Triathletes of all ages and skill levels began their day with a swim in Red Fleet Reservoir, followed by a bike ride past Steinaker State Park into Vernal and then up Dry Fork Canyon, before setting off on a run that ended on the Uintah High School track.

In the Olympic distance — a 1-mile swim, 25- mile bike ride and a 6-mile run — the top overall men's finisher was Branden Rakita of Colorado Springs, Colo. Rakita crossed the finish line with a combined time of 2:08:28.

The top overall women's finisher for the Olympic distance was Jolene Wilkinson of Park City with a time of 2:36:14.

The top local men's finisher was Brett Rasmussen of Neola, who finished eighth with a time of 2:54:17. The top local women's finisher was Andrea McKea of Vernal, who finished ninth with a time of 3:42:30.

In the sprint distance — a half-mile swim, a 13-mile bike ride and a 3-mile run — the top overall men's finisher was Aaron Olsen of Vernal. Olsen crossed the line with a time of 1:13:14.

The top overall women's finisher was Cailee Andersen of Lakewood, Colo., with a time of 1:23:52. The top local women's finisher was Kelsey Birchell of Roosevelt. Birchell stopped the clock with a time of 1:44:32.
