Altamont's Zach Hatch, No. 25, tries to break loose for a large gain vs. the Rich Rebels on Saturday at Snow College. Rich will battle Duchesne in the state title game.

A Duchesne vs. Altamont battle for the 1-A state championship won't happen this year. Duchesne did its part by beating Monticello 22-12, but Rich messed up the Duchesne County state title match-up by defeating the Longhorns 35-7 on Saturday at Snow College.

The first quarter ended in a 0-0 tie and then 20 counters had Rich up 20-0 at the half. Rich quarterback Bradley Holmes scored touchdowns of 31, 32 and 8-yards in the second quarter. He added a fourth TD on a 32-yard run in the third quarter. Caden Anderson put his feet to good use on a 30-yard scoring run and on a 41-yard field goal for a 35-0 lead after three quarters.

Altamont scored its only touchdown on an 18-yard run by Waylon Thompson in the fourth quarter. Russell Brinkerhoff connected on the extra-point kick.

Holmes ran for 120 yards and scored four touchdowns. Rich held AHS to 68 yards of total offense in the first half.

Altamont finished the year with a 6-5 record that included wins over Lyman, Wyo.; Uintah's JV, Monument Valley, Layton Christian and Milford, twice. AHS suffered losses to Rich, twice; Monticello, Duchesne, South Summit.
