Altamont takes early lead, but Duchesne wins game
Altamont had a 12-9 lead vs. Duchesne, but a scoreless third quarter did the Lady Longhorns in as the Lady Eagles took advantage to defeat Altamont in Duchesne 47-33 on Tuesday evening. Whitney Fieldsted hit two free throws for a 2-0 AHS lead. However, a three by Jessica Madsen had Duchesne ahead 3-2. Two-pointers by Sydnee Justice and W. Fieldsted gave Altamont a 6-3 edge midway in the first quarter. Victoria Guzel popped in a shot and then Madsen hit a bucket from the top of the key for a 7-6 Duchesne lead with 2:30 to go. However, Morgan Fieldsted zipped in a basket and her sister, Whitney pumped in one from the outside for a 10-7 Altamont edge. Kylie Kielbasa of Duchesne stole the ball and tossed in a layup to narrow the gap to one point at 10-9. Altamont's Taylor Thompson fired in a two-pointer for an AHS lead of 12-9 at the end of the first quarter. Duchesne's Baylee Thompson zapped in two field goals for a 13-12 Eagle advantage, but Altamont popped in a two-pointer to return a one-point lead of 14-13 to the Longhorns. Quincee Mathews connected on one free throw for a 15-13 AHS edge. The Eagles got busy with Erica Lisonbee hitting two “back-to-back” shots and Kielbasa getting a super pass from Sidnie Fabrizio for a layup and a 21-15 Duchesne lead. W. Fieldsted scored two buckets for Altamont to bring the Longhorns to within two at 21-19 with 25 seconds to go. Duchesne's Lisonbee tossed in two free throws for a 23-19 DHS advantage at the half. Lisonbee scored six points in the second quarter. Duchesne scored only five points in the third quarter, but Altamont didn't do as well with zero counters. Madsen netted a free throw and Thompson hit the first field goal in the quarter with 4:17 to go. Thompson added a second field goal later in the third for a 28-19 Eagle lead. Altamont missed two free throws in the quarter. The Lady Longhorns scored their first points of the second half when W. Fieldsted connected on two free throws 25-seconds into the fourth quarter. Duchesne's Tasha Reilley pumped in a basket for her team, but Taylor Thompson hit one out of two free throws. Lisonbee connected on a field goal for a ten-point edge of 32-22 for the Eagles. T. Thompson and W. Fieldsted poured in foul pitches. However, DHS was back up by 10 at 35-25 on a three by B. Thompson. Madsen got hoop focused for a layup and another inside move that had DHS in command of the game. Thompson and Guzel added free throws plus B. Thompson fired in a field goal to give DHS a 13-point lead of 43-30. Earlier Mathews pumped in a bucket for Altamont. B. Thompson pumped in a couple of free throws and Altamont's Kadea Harrison fired in a three. The Eagles won by 14 counter at 47-33. Thompson led Duchesne with 16 points. She hit one three, five two-pointers and was 3-for-4 on free throws. Also scoring for DHS were: Madsen 12; Lisonbee, 8; Kielbasa, Reilley, 4; Guzel, 3. Whitney Fieldsted was the best Longhorn at 13. She zipped in four two-pointers and hit 5 out of 6 free throws. Also scoring for AHS were: Thompson, 7; Justice, Mathews, 4; Harrison, 3; M. Fieldsted, 2. Guzel had 11 rebounds for the Eagles.
