AHS Longhorns blanks Wyo. team, 27-0
The trip to Lyman, Wyoming was worth it with the Altamont Longhorns winning 27-0, Friday to even their record at 1-1. AHS will face Uintah's JV team, Thursday in Vernal. Altamont led 14-0 after one quarter on a one-yard score by Zaq Brinkerhoff and a 12-yard touchdown pass from quarterback, Bryson Foy to Zach Hatch. Russell Brinkerhoff connected on both extra point kicks. The lead could have been 28-0 in the first quarter, but AHS had two touchdowns called back on penalties. Z. Brinkerhoff zapped Lyman's defense with another score on an eight-yard run in the third quarter for his second tally of the game. Altamont's final TD also came in the third quarter on a one-yard run by Waylon Thompson to send the Longhorns stampeding down the highway to Altamont. R. Brinkerhoff hit two more extra-point kicks to made the final score: Altamont 28, Lyman 0. “A long drive with several successful running plays set up the first score by Z. Brinkerhoff. The snap for a punt was fumbled, and the punter was sacked on the Lyman 20-yard line prior to the second TD. Hatch caught swing pass in the backfield and dashed to end zone for a touchdown,” stated Altamont head coach Mick Fieldsted. Foy hit R. Brinkerhoff on a 40-yard pass to place Altamont on the Lyman, Wyo. one-yard line in the third quarter. “We thought he got in the end zone for a touchdown, but the official said, 'No!' ,and so we punched it in on Thompson's one-yard run,” stated Coach Fieldsted. “Thompson rushed for over 100 yards.” Coach Fieldsted was naturally pleased with his team's defensive play that allowed Lyman only three first downs in the entire game.
