Duchesne Eagles topple Tabiona Tigers for win

No. 2 Deseret News ranked Duchesne defeated Tabiona High School at Duchesne 59-43 in the Lady Eagles final home game on Thursday. DHS will battle Manila on the road on Friday and have an away game at Rich on Feb. 11. The win over Tabiona improves Duchesne's record to 18-3.

Duchesne jumped out to a good start of 12-4 vs. the Lady Tigers in the first quarter. Both teams scored 14 points in the second quarter with Duchesne leading 26-18 at the half. Tabiona outscored DHS 18-17 in third and the Eagles led 44-36. The Eagles took charge in the fourth quarter as they outscored the Tigers 16-7 to win by 16 counters.

Tasha Reilley and Baylee Thompson combined for 38 points with Reilley leading the Eagles at 20 and Thompson adding 18. She hit three 3-pointers and Reilley had one long bomb. Also scoring for Duchesne were: Jessica Madsen, 10; Shawny Ivie, 3; Brittnay Montague, Kylie Kielbasa, Tori Guzel, 2; Erica Lisonbee, Sidnie Fabrizio, 1. DHS hit 24 field goals and pumped in 7 out of 21 free throws.

Kaelynn Brown was the best Tiger at 16 and Whitney Lefler added 12. Brown fired in four threes and Shantaya Strebel tossed in one. Also netting points for Tabiona were: Strebel, 9; Aisha Giles, 4; Madi Westerman, 2. Tabiona zipped in 13 field goals and had a 12-for-30 shooting night at the foul line.
