Local man charged with sexual misconduct
A 57-year-old Cedarview man is being held in Duchesne County Jail under $60,000 bond, accused of sexual misconduct with two teenage boys. Geary David Oakes, a school nurse at Cedar Ridge Academy, allegedly engaged in illegal sex with two 15-year-old students from the school, a Duchesne County Sheriff's Office news release states. He has been charged with two counts of forcible sodomy, a first-degree felony, and two counts of forcible sexual abuse of a minor, a second-degree felony. Cedar Ridge Academy is a therapeutic boarding school in Cedarview north of Roosevelt. The alleged acts occurred at the school and at Oakes' residence during November, according to the news release. Rob Nielson, co-owner and program director at the school, said Oakes was fired once authorities confirmed that the victims' allegations warranted charges. He said Oakes had worked for Cedar Ridge for about 10 years. “This was just a shock to all of us,” Nielsen said. “Our first concern is our students and we have talked with them to determine the extent of the misconduct.” There appears to be no other serious allegations outside the scope of the recent sheriff's investigation, he said. He said the school has alerted parents about the situation. “We're getting a lot of support from the parents,” Nielsen said. A Sheriff's Office probable cause statement filed in 8th District Court contains a summary of testimony detailing several instances of oral sex and masturbatory acts between Oakes and the victims. One of the victims claimed that Oakes gave him pain medication and that he “provides pain and sleeping medications for the kids at Cedar Ridge and tells them to keep it a secret,” the statement said. During the investigation, Oakes confessed to some of the sexual encounters but denied he had supplied anyone with medication that was not prescribed, the statement said. “The reported victims ... are 15-year-old juveniles and unable to consent to the above sexual acts,” the statement said. “Oakes occupied a position of trust as a school nurse and is clearly too old to be in a sexual relationship with the victims.” The investigation is continuing, the Sheriff's Office said.

What a sad sad story. I happened to know this gentleman who did this. It is a sad day indeed and my prayers goes out to the victims and Mrs Oakes during this trying times ahead...
I am not surprised at all. I worked at Cedar Ridge for a considerable amount of time, and had to deal with his sexual innapropriate comments to me more than once.
Wow.... Topazz... You are an idiot. If you really knew this man, you would be shocked liked everyone else. I joined this stupid site because of your stupid comment. And you had to deal with him? Grow up. It sounds like he had to deal with your stupidity. I knew him personally and this is the last thing i would ever had expected. Seriously i hate what he has done and something went corrupt. I can never picture him the same way. I lost somebody i loved. This is worse than this person dying because the memory has changed of him for me and always will be. Instead of him dying as a great man.
This is very unfornuate for everyone involved. Foremost for the victims, who will have to deal with this damaging experience for the rest of their lives. For their parents, who put their trust, hope and money into Cedar Ridge Academy, Rob Nielsen and staff. For Cedar Ridge Academey, who put their heart, soul, time, & money and (literally) risk it all for the benefit of at-risk teenagers. And for Geary Oakes, who obviously had something go very wrong with his judgement. Now he will have someone else making his decisions for the rest of his life. He will have plenty of time to quietly think about the damage he has caused everyone involved. This is so disapointing. I wish healing and peace for everyone struggling with this heavy burdon at this time.
WOW, Truthtigger, you must not have read Topazz's statement about being a victim of sexual harassment!! This is ANOTHER case where someone wants to make the victim in to the perpetrator. Topazz seems to have known him MUCH better than you did. I applaud the bravery it took to make the comment that Topazz did. THis is a time when people that were victims SPEAK out, to be able to heal. More than likely this behavior didnt happen over night and if Topazz had trouble with him, YAY for Topazz to speak up. In YOU Line of thinking, it seems you would want Topazz to keep their mouth shut and endure the abuse. GOOD JOB TOPAZZ. My prayer go to to the victims and his family and the staff at Cedar Ridge. I know some of them and I feel sick to think of ANy ONE of them having to put up with this kind of behavior, it is inexcusable.
