POLICE JAIL SUSPECT
Uintah County sheriff's deputies alerted to a possible shooting late Sunday afternoon question a man in a field off Whiterocks Road, less than a mile north of U.S. Highway 40. The man (center) was later identified as Joseph French, 36, whose residence was near the field. A sheriff's department report states that about 4 p.m., French and Raelene Denver, 45, fought inside their home. At some point during the altercation, French allegedly assaulted Denver and then left the residence on foot. Denver then allegedly retrieved a shotgun and pointed it at French before firing it in another direction. During the investigation, officers from the Bureau of Indian Affairs were on the scene, and a few Roosevelt Fire Department vehicles were standing by. Denver was taken into custody and transported to the Uintah County Jail for aggravated assault. French was booked into jail for assault and possession of a firearm by a restricted person.
