It is a wild battle on the floor as these Union High School Lady Cats try to get the ball under their power at Union High School on Thursday.

The Union High School varsity team members (seniors – Alexis Benson, Sarah John, Majen Mansfield, Brianna Nielsen, Meadow Simkins and juniors – Brooke Davis, Jessica Gillman, Perissa John, Brandi Percival, Kaycee Prevedel, Katie Richens plus some sophomores) staged a wild battle in the final scrimmage of the Meet The Cougars Night on Thursday. The White team held off the Black squad 15-14 in Roosevelt.

Union's White team jumped out to a 7-2 lead, but free throws by Nielsen had the Black crew within three at 8-5 by hitting three out of four free throws. Richens connected on a field goal for a 10-5 White squad edge.

After another Nielsen free throw, Richens continued her red-hot shooting with a 3-pointer and Simkins' free throw had the White team up14-6. Mansfield zapped in a shot to cut the lead to 14-8.

Prevedel made her first free throw, missed the second one, but Sarah John was there for the rebound and dropped in a field goal. She was fouled and completed the three-point play to close the gap to two at 14-12.

Simkins pumped in one free throw for a 15-12 edge and then two charity tosses by S. John had the Black team down by one at 15-14 with 1:01 left. The Black squad's Prevedel had a layup not go in as it rolled off the hoop with 47.2 seconds remaining.

The Black team had another shot at winning the game, but the ball was tied up by a White crew player with the possession arrow pointing to the White squad bench. The rest of the time was used up and the White team took a one-point triumph.

Union will open regular season play with its JV team playing Tabiona's varsity in Roosevelt on Nov. 24. The Cougar varsity will host Duchesne on Nov. 25 and will battle North Sanpete in an away game on Dec. 1. The next home games are vs. South Summit on Dec. 15 and Stansbury from the Tooele area on Dec. 18.
