Roosevelt soccer teams pulled off their best finishes ever at the Tomato Wars in Hooper, Utah and Cottonwood Heights Meet.

The U14 boys took first place at both tourneys and beat teams from Cottonwood in both championship games. They whipped the Cottonwood Cobras at the Tomato Wars.

Roosevelt's U14 girls placed first and second. They lost one championship game with 30 seconds left in overtime, 3-2. The teams that they faced in the title contests were both from the Cottonwood area. One of the squads was known as the Cottonwood Galaxy.

The U19 coed team pocketed two second place finishes. They lost to a Salt Lake City based team that garnered a title at nationals last year. The U12 girls garnered two thirds. Roosevelt's U12 and U10 boys' crews didn't place.

Dr. Michael Catten and rest of the Roosevelt coaching staff were impressed with their teams' excellent play.

“Taking firsts, seconds and thirds was amazing after not winning any games last year at those tournaments. Last year Roosevelt only scored a few goals,” said Dr. Catten. “I don't think a Roosevelt soccer team has ever placed in a soccer meet before. We (Roosevelt) dominated the teams that we played.”

The U14 boys teams scored 21 goals and gave up only two at the Tomato Wars to plant their opponents into losses that grew to championship titles.

Roosevelt's U14 girls lost to a talented team from the Salt Lake County area in overtime and Coach Dr. Catten said that the opponent's coach stated, “The Roosevelt girls' defense is the toughest defense we have faced all year.”
