Time to 'See & Do' it again
With this week's release of the 2009 See & Do Guide, the Uintah Basin Standard and the Vernal Express are once again challenging adventurous readers to get out and experience all that Daggett, Duchesne, and Uintah counties have to offer this summer. This year's guide repeats the popular 101 things to see and do format – with a few changes in the line-up – while building on the success of the inaugural See & Do contest held in 2008. We've also secured some amazing prizes for the individuals or families who can prove they've seen or done the greatest number of items on the list. Last year's contests was won by Lacy Bartholomeusz, her husband Mark, and their children, Courtanie and Ryan. The Vernal family claimed the top prize by completing 80 of the 101 things listed in the 2008 See & Do Guide. (The top three places in last year's challenge were separated by a total of nine events.) Of course, no contest would be legitimate without rules, so here they are: 1. The contest runs from June 16, 2009, to Sept. 30, 2009. In order to count an activity, event or location toward your total, you must have completed it during the contest period. 2. If you work for either of the newspapers or their parent companies, or are related to one of us – sorry, you can't win anything. You are still more than welcome though to see and do as many of the items listed in the guide as possible. 3. To win, you must provide documentation that shows you completed each activity on your submitted list. Acceptable forms of documentation include, but are not limited to, dated receipts that include the name of the venue, dated photographs of yourself at the location (yes, you'll finally have to learn how to enable this feature on your camera), or ticket stubs that have a date clearly printed on them. 4. All documentation must prove that you accomplished the task between June 16, 2009, and Sept. 30, 2009. If a question exists about the authenticity of submitted documentation, the publishers and editors of the Uintah Basin Standard and Vernal Express will decide whether to validate the documentation. All decisions are final. 5. All documentation must be received by 5 p.m. on Sept. 30, 2009, at the office of the Uintah Basin Standard at 268 S. 200 East in Roosevelt; or the Vernal Express at 60 E. 100 North in Vernal. 6. None of the prizes can be redeemed for cash. 7. And finally, any ties will be resolved by way of a drawing. Now you maybe wondering whether the prizes we're offering are worth trekking from Fruitland to Manila to take in all the Basin's summer offerings. We think they are. The first place winner will have his or her pick one of these six prizes: 1. A Flaming Gorge Resort Package. The winner can choose between a guided fishing trip on the Green River or a scenic float trip, plus a one-night stay in a suite at Flaming Gorge Lodge and dinner and breakfast for two. 2. A family reunion package from LC Ranch in Altamont. The package includes a two-night stay for a family group and the West cabin at LC Ranch. Amenities include an RV camping area and a covered picnic area. Water activities are included, with the exception of fishing. 3. A vacation for two at Falcon's Ledge Resort. This package includes a one-night stay for two in any of the resort's eight private suites. Breakfast is included as well. 4. A one-day Green River rafting trip with Hatch River Expeditions through Split Mountain Canyon for four people. Transportation from Hatch’s Vernal headquarters to the launch site and all expenses are covered. All food and river gear are also provided. The winner’s party will launch at Rainbow Park, stopping along the way for a short hike to view Native American petroglyphs. The nine-mile river journey will include a break just past the halfway point at Hatch Beach for a shore lunch and then continue to the take out point at the Split Mountain boat ramp. 5. A day of guided mountain biking for two on the Uintah Basin’s awesome network for trails. The guide for this trip is world champion BMX racer Troy Lupcho. The winner and a guest will be loaned two full-suspension Specialized Stumpjumper FSR demo bikes valued at $3,500 each for the day. The winner will also receive a $100 discount on a bike purchase from Altitude Cycle, plus one year of free service. 6. A family reunion fun package from the Duchesne County Area Chamber of Commerce. The package includes: rental of the multipurpose room at the Crossroads Center in Roosevelt for eight hours; four passes for 18 holes of golf at the Roosevelt City Golf Course; 20 passes for one session at the Roosevelt City Swimming Pool; a $25 gift certificate for milkshakes and hot fudge sundaes at Marion’s Variety; and a $50 gift certificate to Stewart’s Marketplace. The Crossroads Center must be scheduled in advance (some dates are not available). A refundable cleaning deposit is required and children must be supervised. The center can be booked between April 15 and Oct. 15, 2010. Other prizes include: 20 gift certificates for a rock chip repair from The Glass Shoppe; two gift certificates for a full-service lube at Rod's Mini-Lube; two $25 gas cards from Western Petroleum; and one gift certificate for a windshield replacement from The Glass Shoppe. After the grand prize winner makes his or her choice, the second through sixth place winners will choose from the remaining prize packages in the order of their finish. All other finishers will be allowed to select from the gift certificate . So take the challenge this summer and get outside to See & Do the Uintah Basin. And don't hesitate to let us know throughout the summer how many things you've checked off your list.
